Quick Yoga Flows for Busy Mums to Feel Grounded and Strong

If this is you, you need to stop and take a breath. Feel the ground underneath your feet and be present in the moment. This is also called earthing or grounding which involves connecting with the Earth's natural energy by physically touching or being in close proximity to the ground. This practice is based on the belief that direct contact with the Earth's surface can have various health benefits due to the exchange of electrons between the body and the Earth.

 

You can practice grounding through:

  • Walking barefoot: One of the simplest ways to ground yourself is by walking barefoot on natural surfaces such as grass, sand, or soil. Spend time walking mindfully, paying attention to the sensations in your feet as they make contact with the ground.

  • Lying or Sitting on the Ground: Find a comfortable spot outdoors where you can sit or lie down directly on the ground. This could be in a park, on the beach, or in your backyard. Close your eyes, relax your body, and feel the support of the Earth beneath you.

  • Mindful Meditation: Practice mindfulness meditation outdoors, focusing your attention on the sensations of the Earth beneath you. Visualize roots extending from your body into the ground, grounding you and providing stability and support.

In yoga we practice bare feet so we can ground ourselves and feel that we are connected to the surface beneath us. We can also ground through breathwork and mindfulness techniques to connect with the earth’s energy to cultivate stability and inner strength.

In our busy mum life, it's easy to feel overwhelmed, scattered, and disconnected from our sense of centre. If I have a busy day, I love taking a walk in the park with the dog to unwind after a stressful day. This grounds me, get my blood flow moving and relax my body and mind. I also enjoy doing some restorative practice or meditation with some peaceful music in the background to bring me back into a more grounded and relaxed state.
