Packing Light: Essential Yoga Gear for Traveling Yogis

For busy mums who are passionate about yoga, maintaining their practice while traveling is a priority. It’s also a way to keep your sanity in the busyness when travelling with kids. However, packing for yoga practice or simply squeezing in some practice during a family vacation can be challenging, especially when space and weight are limited.

In this blog post, we'll explore essential yoga gear that traveling yogis, particularly mums, can pack to ensure a seamless and enjoyable practice on the go.

Travel-Friendly Yoga Mat:

Invest in a lightweight and foldable travel yoga mat that can easily fit into your luggage or carry-on bag. Look for mats made from eco-friendly materials that provide sufficient cushioning and grip for your practice.

Compact Yoga Towel:

Pack a compact yoga towel that can double as a mat towel for extra grip during sweaty sessions or as a towel for wiping away sweat during your practice. Choose a quick-drying and absorbent towel that won't take up much space in your bag.

Yoga Strap:

A yoga strap is a versatile prop that can help deepen stretches, improve flexibility, and provide support during challenging poses. Choose a lightweight and adjustable yoga strap that can be easily packed and used to enhance your practice wherever you go.

Yoga Blocks:

While traditional yoga blocks may be bulky and heavy to travel with, consider packing lightweight and compact foam or cork blocks that won't weigh you down. These props can be invaluable for providing stability and support in various poses, especially if you have tight muscles or limited flexibility.

Foldable Meditation Cushion:

For moms who enjoy meditation or seated pranayama practices, a foldable meditation cushion can provide comfort and support during extended periods of sitting. Look for cushions that are lightweight, portable, and easy to pack in your carry-on or suitcase. If you don’t want to bring a cushion a towel at the destination will be an alternative or the hotel blanket.

Travel-Sized Essential Oils:

Incorporate aromatherapy into your yoga practice by packing travel-sized bottles of essential oils. Choose calming scents like lavender or chamomile to promote relaxation and stress relief during your practice or to enhance your post-practice relaxation. My favourite is a chakra blend by Perfect Potion which helps you align your chakras and body in times of travel. I have the mist and oil, but you can use a roller which is easy to put in your bag.

Portable Water Bottle:

Staying hydrated is essential during yoga practice, especially when traveling to new climates or engaging in active outdoor activities. Pack a portable water bottle that you can refill throughout the day to ensure you stay hydrated and energized during your practice sessions or when you are out and about on your day trips.

Packing light doesn't mean sacrificing your yoga practice while traveling. By prioritizing essential yoga gear that is lightweight, compact, and versatile, busy moms can maintain their practice on the go without weighing down their luggage. Invest in travel-friendly yoga equipment that enhances your practice and allows you to find moments of peace and mindfulness wherever your travels take you. Happy travels and happy yoga!

Your Ayurvedic wellness kit

Traveling as a busy mum can be hectic, but incorporating Ayurvedic principles into your travel routine can help maintain balance and well-being. An Ayurveda wellness kit tailored for travel can provide essential tools to support your health and tranquillity on the go. Here are some of my favourites in my Ayurveda wellness kit that can help you stay healthy on your travels.

  • Herbal Teas - Ginger, chamomile, and peppermint. Ginger tea aids digestion and reduces nausea; chamomile tea promotes relaxation and sleep; peppermint soothes the digestive tract.

  • Essential Oils

    • Lavender Oil - Calms the mind, promotes relaxation, and aids in sleep. Add a few drops to a cotton ball or use a portable diffuser. You can also apply it to your temples or wrists.

    • Peppermint Oil - Energises, relieves headaches, and soothes digestive issues. Inhale directly from the bottle or dilute with a carrier oil and apply to the temples or abdomen.

    • Eucalyptus Oil - Clears nasal congestion and supports respiratory health. Add a few drops to a tissue and inhale or use in a steam inhalation.

  • Ginger Tablets or Candies - Alleviates nausea and aids digestion. Take as needed, especially useful during flights or car rides.

  • Ayurvedic Oils -Sesame oil for Vata dosha, coconut oil for Pitta dosha, and mustard oil for Kapha dosha. I also like Perfect Potions Chakra oil which is a great oil to rebalance but also to use when practicing yoga and meditation. It will moisturise the skin, relieves dryness, and promotes relaxation.

  • Tongue Scraper - Promotes oral hygiene and enhances taste perception. Use each morning to scrape your tongue gently, removing toxins and bacteria.

The last thing you want on your trip is to be sick so being prepared with some essential remedies can make a big difference to prevent any long-time sickness that will ruin your trip. I’m a firm believer that prevention is the best way to stay healthy and keeping fit, so for me keeping to a good diet and doing my yoga is always my main priority to ensure me and my families wellbeing.

An Ayurveda wellness kit and on-the-go yoga can transform your travel experience, keeping your calm, energised, and healthy. By incorporating these practices, you can handle the challenges of traveling with young kids more smoothly and create lasting, joyful memories. Embrace the journey with confidence, knowing you have the tools to support your well-being so you can enjoy the trip.
