Reclaiming Your Time: How Yoga Empowers Professional Mums to Prioritise Self-Care
Have you ever felt time is slipping away and you are not in control of what is happening. You are living your life for others, to help, to please to do what is expected but you never seem to find time for YOU.
It’s time to reclaim back YOUR TIME and prioritise yourself.
As a busy professional mum, you have lots of things to juggle, not only your family, taking your kids to school, helping them with homework, bring them to sport activities but also working, having a career yes, the list goes on. You might think finding time in the midst of all this can seem impossible, it might only be a dream of something you can never achieve. At the same time, you are always tired, feeling exhausted, annoyed, unhappy and you so badly want to have that time but don’t know how. However, it's essential for mums to recognize that their well-being is just as important as everything else they manage. One powerful tool that empowers professional moms to reclaim their time and prioritize self-care is yoga. In this blog post, we'll explore how yoga can support and empower busy professional moms, allowing them to find balance, rejuvenation, and inner strength amidst their demanding lives.
Remember, self-care doesn't have to be time-consuming or elaborate. It can be as simple as setting aside a few minutes each day for activities that bring you joy and rejuvenation. By prioritizing self-care, you invest in your own well-being, which ultimately benefits both your professional and personal life.
I understand how you feel because I’m also a busy mum, working and juggling many commitments, it can be stressful. What has helped me as a mum has been yoga. I know especially as a new mum it was tough but taking time for myself every day helped me be a better mum as I made time to recharge and relax. Some days I did meditation early morning for 10mins, or I did a restorative yoga session or a more vigorous yoga, pending on how I felt. I ensured I scheduled in ‘me’ time in my calendar, some days it might be longer and other days a bit shorter. At one stage I wasn’t consistent, but I soon learnt that not taking time for myself and looking after me was a bad decision and I soon felt the negative effects.
Yoga provided so much more especially the connection with other mums was amazing as we could share similar struggles and help each other through our challenges. Yoga became a way to destress and rejuvenate when I was tired and had no energy and it helped me through the day. It became a way of life, that changed the way I lived, and I’ve never looked back.
But how can yoga empower you to claim this so very important time in our life and how can I make the time?
One of the biggest challenges for professional moms is finding time for self-care. Yoga provides a dedicated space and time for moms to focus solely on themselves. By setting aside even a few minutes each day for yoga, mums create a precious window for self-nurturing and rejuvenation. Whether it's waking up a bit earlier or finding pockets of time throughout the day, prioritizing yoga allows moms to reclaim their time and take care of their physical and mental well-being. Busy professional moms tend to prioritise their family and work over self-care. However, engaging in a regular yoga practice allows you to carve out dedicated time for yourself. By making self-care a priority, you can recharge, replenish your energy, and approach your responsibilities with more enthusiasm and vitality.
Incorporate these steps into your daily routine to make time for YOU:
Prioritise Self-Care: Understand that self-care is not selfish; it's essential for your well-being and, by extension, your family's well-being. Make self-care, including yoga and meditation, a priority.
Set Realistic Goals: You don't need to spend hours each day on these practices. Even dedicating 10-20 minutes can make a significant difference. Start with a realistic goal that you can consistently stick to.
Establish a Routine: Consistency is key. Set a specific time each day for your yoga and meditation practice. This can be early in the morning, during nap time, or after the kids go to bed.
Create a Relaxing Space: Designate a quiet and calming space in your home for your practice. Even a small corner with a cushion or mat can work. This space can serve as a visual reminder to make time for yourself.
Involve the Family: If possible, involve your children in your practice. You can do family yoga sessions or teach your kids some simple mindfulness exercises. This can be a fun and bonding experience.
Be Flexible: Life as a mom is unpredictable. Sometimes, your planned practice time might not work out. In such cases, be flexible and find opportunities to sneak in a quick session during the day.
Reclaiming your time as a professional mom is essential for your overall well-being and the well-being of your family. By incorporating yoga into your self-care routine, you empower yourself to prioritize your physical, mental, and emotional health. Yoga offers a sanctuary where you can find balance, relaxation, and inner strength amidst the busyness of your life. Remember, taking care of yourself is not selfish; it's a vital step towards being the best version of yourself as a professional mum. Embrace yoga and reclaim your time to nourish your body and mind so you can live your life to the fullest.
